We’ve recently seen a huge increase in multi-stone celebrity engagement rings – Megan Fox, Ariana Grande, Emily Ratajkowski – and you can fully anticipate which style will stick around in 2022. Zimmerman says double (and even triple) stone rings !) will be popular, along with unique combinations of stones and gems (think Fox’s accompanying emerald or Grande’s pearl).

“Specifically, the double stone visually highlights the coming together of two people as a couple,” she explains. “We have seen more and more people choose diamonds and unique gemstones to deepen the love story that is told with the two gemstones.”

Kathryn Money, senior vice president of merchandising and retail at Brilliant Earth, tells us that the timeless symbolism of the You And Me design is part of the appeal. “While this may seem like a modern and unique trend, it’s actually an engagement ring style that’s been around for centuries,” she says. “The beauty of a Toi Et Moi engagement ring is not only in the symbolism of unity, but also in the way the associated stones can accentuate the beauty of each other.”

And while the three-stone ring has also been around for a while, Zimmerman tells us that it’s been experiencing a bit of a resurgence lately. “The three stones are said to represent the past, present and future of a couple going through the different stages of a relationship.”

Logan Hollowell, jewelry designer and founder of his eponymous jewelry brand, adds that multi-stone rings allow for creativity. “We are also living in a cultural moment that values distinctiveness and artistic expression, and Toi et Moi rings exude individuality,” she says.

Gender neutral rings

Over the past year, gender-neutral ring options have finally become more readily available. And it’s only just started. Money says the simple, fluid designs will continue to grow in popularity over the coming year. And your favorite stars are leading the pack, like Bella Hadid, Dua Lipa and Kylie Jenner opting for chunky jewelry options this year.

“While dainty rings are still in fashion for engagement rings, we’re seeing more and more women starting to gravitate toward bolder, chunky styles that are more traditionally associated with menswear,” Money says. .

Colored gemstones

Colored stones are having a moment, allowing couples to choose something bold and sparkly to represent their love story. Zimmerman notes that emerald, morganite and sapphire are particularly popular options this year.

“Colorful engagement rings and wedding accessories, like colorful wedding dresses, have been in high demand recently, so it makes sense that the most purchased rings we’ve seen in the past month won’t were not diamond stones,” says Michela Griffin, Sales Manager of the Klarna Commercial Shopping App. And according to the app, emerald stone rings are up 115% in December 2021 alone, making 2022 the year of the gemstone.

vintage nostalgia

In the same way that thrift and vintage finds have taken over the fashion industry, antique engagement rings are at the forefront of the industry. Finding a one-of-a-kind piece can be truly special, but you can still look the same while staying true to yourself with vintage-inspired rings. “They offer an emotional connection to a special someone like a grandmother, mother, or aunt, but with the ability to make it their own while still having sentimental value,” notes Zimmerman.

Adding a band, diamond shape or different cut is a way to update a timeless style while craft techniques such as milgrain, hand engraving, draping and the filigree patterns will add vintage components to your sparkler, says Zimmerman. “Vintage-inspired rings are all about creating your own personal style while adding sentimental value to your engagement rings,” Zimmerman says.

Traditional cushion cuts are even making a comeback according to Klarna, which found that the vintage style saw a 118% increase in purchases at the end of last year. “Cushion-cut engagement rings have always been a safe and timeless choice among brides-to-be, so it’s no surprise that these styles are on the cutting edge of other classics,” says Griffin.

Another ring trend that has taken the industry by storm is stacked styles. The design allows every customer to get creative with shapes and combos. Plus, a stacked set can help accent an existing room. “Stacked and interlocking wedding styles are a unique way to showcase the centerpiece and make a statement,” says Money.

Brilliant Earth even organized a collection which is specially designed to mix, match and stack for the perfect jewel filled finger.

Oval shapes

Oval-shaped diamonds boomed in popularity last year and will only continue to gain momentum in 2022. According to Zimmerman, the soft, oblong shape of an oval draws attention to the hand and elongates the appearance of the fingers. “The diamond can speak for itself or can be made even higher with additional stones or a decorated band.”

Hollowell also predicts that lone ovals are making a comeback. “These are very flirtatious and feminine stones while keeping a timeless essence”, she says Brides.

And if celebrity engagements are any indication, ovals are here to stay.To all the boys I’ve loved before Star Lana Condor debuted a stunning oval rock set in a yellow gold band in the first month of the year.

And if you remember, Carrie Bradshaw (the fashion queen herself) has a black diamond ring. The reboot recently aired the season finale, and just like that …black stone rings have seen an uptick.

“Black Diamond engagement rings may have had a big moment in the first month of the year,” says Griffin. “During the extremely anticipated period sex and the city to restart, And just like thatfans remembered the decades-long romance between Carrie Bradshaw and Big, which left viewers eager for another glimpse of the rare Black Diamond ring Big gifted Carrie in the latest SATC movie.”

“This unique trend offering diamonds crafted under the center gemstone of the ring is meant to add extra sparkle and unique personalization to otherwise understated styles,” she tells us. “These hidden accents are often associated with standalone styles and are timeless modern classics with a twist and a personalized touch.”
