Maharashtra: 2 cleaning marshals detained for ‘snatching’ diamonds, gold worth Rs 10 lakh

SAMTA Nagar Police have arrested two cleaning marshals for allegedly stealing a bag containing gold and diamonds worth Rs 10 lakh from a 52-year-old jewelry holder at Rajguru Bridge in Kandivali (east) .

The defendants – identified as Rahul Gavhane (37) and Ashish Gupta (30) – residents of Sanskar society in Kandivali (east) and Kranti Nagar Kandivali (east), respectively, were allegedly involved in a similar crime earlier, including an FIR was registered at the Kasturba Marg police station, officials said on Tuesday, adding that both worked as marshals of cleaning.

The complainant, a resident of Nalasopara, stated in the FIR that he works in a jewelry company in Kandivali (east) and deals with the transport of gold and diamonds. At around 2.30 p.m. on September 27 this year, while the plaintiff was on duty and walking from Kandivali (west) to Kandivali (east) with gold and diamonds worth Rs 10 lakh, two men pretending to be police stopped him and asked him to open his bag. , as part of a random security check, to see if he was carrying drugs.

The duo then asked the 52-year-old victim to show the bills for the jewelry, which she said was in the bag itself.

The two men started walking with the bag and asked the complainant to follow them, saying that a “senior” officer in a van below Rajguru’s bridge would check the bills. Along the way, the duo suddenly sat on a motorbike and fled before the complainant could even write down the vehicle’s registration number, police said.
