Dubai Customs Attend Rough Diamond Valuation Event

Dubai – 06 June 2022: As part of its plan to improve the knowledge and practical experience of its employees, Dubai Customs sent a delegation from the Customs Valuation Department to learn more about the international inspection and clearance process. valuation of rough diamonds. The activity was organized by Stargems Group, DMCC, at the company’s headquarters in Almas Tower in Dubai, with the participation of specialists and experts from all over the world.

“The goal of participating in this event is part of the department’s plans to empower employees and qualify them to become experts in gemstone appraisal in the future, in order to achieve the goals Dubai Customs regarding the preparation of customs experts in the field of gemstones and jewellery,” said Eman Badr Al-Suwaidy, Director of the Customs Valuation Department. “It will also help to learn how to use a rapid examination equipment and to understand the characteristics and quality of diamonds, which enables to collect fair and reasonable customs duties, prevent the evasion of customs duties, distinguish between real and fake diamonds and protect the end user.

For his part, Ali Al-Tamimi, Senior Manager of Valuation Services and Database at Dubai Customs, said: “The event added new skills to employees by learning the methods used to inspect goods. rough diamonds using the latest equipment to ensure the accuracy of diamond clarity and assess their prices.

At the end of the event, the Dubai Customs delegation visited the gemstone inspection and testing laboratories and held meetings with experts and specialists in the examination of rough diamonds.
