Best Vegan Perfumes 2022: Cruelty-Free Fragrances That Smell Great

Eganism is more popular than ever. According to Veganuary, the global organization encouraging people to follow a plant-based lifestyle, those attending the annual January event reached new heights in 2022 – with nearly 610,000 attendees.

Switching to a vegan lifestyle isn’t just about your diet (though our pick of the best cheeses, pantry essentials, and subscription boxes should get you started). You also need to look into your wardrobe and your beauty cabinet. If you’ve already made the change in your hair and skincare, there’s another department that will need an overhaul.

It is often assumed that due to the floral nature of most perfumes, they are automatically vegan, but this is far from true. Many contain recreated synthetic ingredients where ingredients such as beeswax, honey, civet, ambergris, castoreum and keratin will still end up in your bottle.

There are already a lot of decisions to make when it comes to choosing your signature scent. Whether you fall into the floral, fruity, citrus, green, woodsy, oriental, or aromatic camps is so subjective and typically divisive – and you have to like how it smells on your skin.

Checking to see if it contains animal by-products adds another level of complication that can leave your shopping cart empty and a void in your fragrance collection. Many brands won’t share this information on their product description, so… how do you know?

Experts at The Perfume Shop explain, “If a perfume doesn’t state that its formula is vegan and cruelty-free, then it probably isn’t! Our best advice is to watch for the universally used cruelty-free bunny logo and any other vegan messages on the packaging.

Below, we’ve researched the vegan scents that will define the scent experience for your plant-based lifestyle.

The effects are floral yet earthy and seriously addictive.
